Modern Warfare 3 ‘Competition Mode’ to Bring Better LAN Game Modes Customization, Unlock All Weapons
Something that’s been decidedly lackluster from Modern Warfare 3 is its local multiplayer (System Link.) On both the PS3 and Xbox versions of the game, the ability to set up your own customized LAN games is limited due to the fact that when setting up a game you can’t allow all weapons and attachments to be unlocked by default. Also, the overall lack of customization options for game modes mean that it’s not as easy as it should be to set up good custom games via System Link. It’s the reason that the Modern Warfare series hasn’t featured on the professional (MLG) circuit when Black Ops and its richer System Link options thrived.
Infinity Ward plan to do a little catching up on that front with the next title updates for both consoles. Modern Warfare 3 will be getting what they are calling ‘Competition mode’. Exact details are scarce, but Competition Mode will enable the ability to unlock all weapons/attachments by default and give you a greater level of customization of game modes when playing local multiplayer via System Link. This’ll make setting up private competitions much easier.
Competition Mode will be added to the PlayStation 3 with patch 1.15 on June 14 – the same date that the next batch of DLC arrives for premium Elite members – with the update landing on Xbox with the as-yet-unannounced June update / content drops.
